The open Access journal “Research in Geophysics, RiG” organizes a Special Issue on Earthquake Precursors and their Value for the Prediction of Earthquakes. Papers focusing on every type of earthquake precursors (e.g. seismic and non-seismic, based on land or space observations) as well as theoretical, experimental and operational approaches on earthquake prediction/forecasting are mostly welcomed. Also, papers presented in recent meetings, e.g. 33rd General Assembly of the European Seismological Society (Moscow, 19-24 Aug., 2012) but also in other past or forthcoming meetings (e.g. AGU, EGU, IUGG etc.) will be considered for publication. However, a paper will be published only after getting peer review according to the international standards of RiG.

Papers submitted for publication in the special issue will be handled by a team of Guest-Editors well known for their expertise in the topic. However, final decision for each one of the papers will be taken by the Editor-in-Chief (EiC) who will coordinate the entire procedure.

The team of Guest-Editors who offered to contribute in this special issue include:

M. Kafatos (Chapman University, CA, USA)

V. Kossobokov (Institute of Earthquake Prediction & Mathematical Geophysics, Russian Academy of Sciences, Russian Federation)

D. Ouzounov (Chapman University, CA, USA)

S. Pulinets (Space Research Institute, Russian Academy of Sciences,

Russian Federation)

V. Tramutoli (University of Basilicata, Italy)

The procedure predicts that papers will be submitted electronically through the RiG system starting on 1st October 2012 (http://www.pagepress.org/journals/index.php/ rg/index). Then the EiC will assign a Guest-Editor to manage the submission. The Guest-Editor will have the responsibility to assign two reviewers after consultation with the EiC and to manage the review process with the support of the editorial office. The intention is to get final review report within two months from submission. After the termination of the review process, including submission of revised versions by authors, a recommendation for final decision will be given to the EiC, that is “accepted for publication” or “rejected” and the EiC will make the final decision by taking into account the recommendation and the review material. It is up to EiC to consider further review if needed.

A paper will be published as soon as its editorial process has finished. The submission deadline will be 31st May 2013. The publication charge for this issue will be EUR 250,00 per paper.

Potential authors are invited to submit their papers in this quite attractive special issue!
