{"id":563,"date":"2022-07-27T16:10:48","date_gmt":"2022-07-27T14:10:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/web.unibas.it\/begin\/?page_id=563"},"modified":"2022-07-27T16:10:48","modified_gmt":"2022-07-27T14:10:48","slug":"test-sites","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/web.unibas.it\/begin\/?page_id=563&lang=en","title":{"rendered":"Test sites"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The test sites were selected considering different causes of abandonment (natural and anthropogenic), such as landslides, construction of hydroelectric power plants and socio-political reasons.<\/p>\n<p>In particular, the &#8220;ghost towns&#8221; that will be investigated are the following:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Craco, Italy<\/li>\n<li>Vilarinho da Furna, Portugal;<\/li>\n<li>Himara, Albania.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The main role is attributed to the old village of Craco, chosen as a test site for the experimentation of some specific actions (see section \u201cActions\u201d).<\/p>\n<p>Craco, located in an area of \u200b\u200bsocio-cultural and environmental attraction of national importance, was abandoned starting from the 1960s due to the paroxysmal effects of a landslide whose activity can be traced back at least to the beginning of the XIX century. The site is a tourist destination of significant interest and an abandoned village of international significance. In 2010 Craco was included by the World Monuments Fund in the list of monuments to be safeguarded.<\/p>\n<p>Himara, once home to several hundred families, is now home to only a few people. In fact, in 1945, at the dawn of the communist regime, many inhabitants fled persecution and never returned to their homes.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=oIofO6B2g7Q\">Vilarinho da Furna<\/a><\/strong> was a small village in the northeast of the municipality of Terras de Bouro (district of Braga; NW Portugal), included in the Peneda-Ger\u00eas National Park. The village was abandoned and submerged in 1972, due to the construction of the Vilarinho das Furnas hydroelectric plant. In spring-summer the site can be visited and access is managed by the local ethnographic museum (Museu Etnogr\u00e1fico de Vilarinho da Furna).<\/p>\n<p><img src=\"https:\/\/web.unibas.it\/begin\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/earth.jpg\" \/>The three \u201cghost towns\u201d selected as test sites<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The test sites were selected considering different causes of abandonment (natural and anthropogenic), such as landslides, construction of hydroelectric power plants and socio-political reasons.
